Antique Shabby Chic

Shopping thrift, consignment, fleas, and antique stores is a great pastime of mine. North Carolina is full of great stores all over the place! Since I live in Eastern NC I mostly shop here when on the road between Greenville to Raleigh or Durham or Burlington. The ones in the western part of the state are considered fabulous! Camille and I plan a trip in the spring to shop the mountain area - can't wait. Meanwhile, here are a few things I've come across or purchased and painted for the house,etc. I will keep adding to this post as I find and photograph more of my treasures. Have fun looking!

Here is a little doll, porcelain face, tiny 11 inch body, and she is perfect!

Amelie the Bleuette Doll

Amelie is a Bleuette Doll, reproduction Bleuette that is.  She was made by a Bleuette doll maker, named Blythe Pelham.  I bought her from Blythe after accidentally falling upon this yahoo group for Bleuettes, called the Bleuette Sewing Club

I've always loved dolls and been fascinated with antique dolls.  Here is a little information from wikipedia about the Bleuette doll's origination 

" Bleuette is a doll that was produced from 1905 to 1960 in France, that was only available to readers of the girls' magazine La Semaine de Suzette, or the English version - "Suzette's Week". Bleuette has a fully jointed composition body. She was 27 cm (10" 5/8) until 1933, then 29 cm (11 3/8) until production ended in 1960. 

The first Bleuette dolls are known as "Premiere Bleuette", and were given free to those who had placed an order for a year's subscription to La Semaine de Suzette before its first publication in February 1905, and were available only until one month after the first issue. 20,000 Jumeau dolls were ordered from the Société Française de Fabrication de Bébés et Jouets (SFBJ) for the initial advertisement, but 60,000 subscriptions were received, and this first supply of dolls were gone before the first issue was even released."

This is a beautiful pattern and I'm trying to find a pattern like this to make.  No luck so far!  The crochet artist doesn't have patterns for sale.  I'm only using her image here on this site in hopes of someone seeing it and knowing about a pattern that is similar, etc.

Sewing for Children
